ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental membership organization and the world's largest developer of voluntary International Standards.

ISO standaarden die gebruikt worden binnen UBL zijn:

• ISO 3166: t.b.v. landencodes.
• ISO 4217 Alpha; t.b.v. valutacodes.
• ISO 8601; t.b.v. datum+tijdnotatie. 

UBL zelf is ook vastgelegd als ISO norm, te weten: UBL (V2.1) onder de standaard ISO/IEC 19845:2015.
